With more than three decades of dedicated service, Kevin McCandless has been an integral part of our firm’s growth and evolution. In his role as a BIM modeler and project director, his focus on producing detailed drawings is complemented by his enthusiasm for exploring new innovations in construction and design. This has helped shape our practice through years of technological advancement.
When he’s not developing solutions to design challenges or collaborating with colleagues, McCandless enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, appreciating the simple pleasures of a good dinner and a nature walk. His blend of technical expertise and genuine curiosity continues to make him a valuable member of our team.
Let’s get to know more about Kevin and his perspective on work, life, and design!
Q: What’s your job title, and what do you do day-to-day?
A: As BIM modeler/project director, my main focus is on producing drawings, but I have been involved in a variety of duties over the years … many years!
Q: What’s your favorite part about your job and our company culture?
A: Interacting with co-workers, coming up with solutions to design challenges, and learning about new innovations in construction and design.
Q: What’s your favorite project or achievement?
A: My greatest achievement is staying happily married for 33 years and counting. Probably more, my wife’s greatest achievement is putting up with me for that long!
Q: What does an ideal weekend look like for you?
A: A good dinner out with my lovely wife, and a walk out in nature with my lovely wife.
Q: What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on and why?
A: When I was a kid, we took a camping trip across the county, visiting many national parks, like the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Sequoia, Yellowstone, Glacier, and Rocky Mountain. I’ve only gotten back to three. I’d like to revisit more.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: Mexican
Q: Who’s someone you admire and why?
A: My dad. He was very smart and creative — an engineer and an artist.
Q: If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
A: If the swap comes with the talent, one of my favorite jazz musicians, because just for one day, I could play like I wish I could play.
