Construction is where design meets reality, and Chris Bonner, one of our construction contract administrators, bridges the gap between design vision and built reality. He skillfully coordinates with contractors and maintains quality control throughout the construction process. And when he’s not ensuring quality at every construction milestone, he’s bringing our team together as the “commissioner” of our office ping-pong and fantasy football leagues!
Read Chris’s story below!
Q: What’s your job title, and what do you do day-to-day?
A: I’m a construction contract administrator. My day-to-day job will vary depending on the current phase of a project. Currently, we are in the early stages of two projects, so that includes submittal, shop drawing, and RFI review.
Q: What’s your favorite part about your job and our company culture?
A: My favorite part of my job goes hand to hand with the company’s culture — feeling like I am part of a team rather than feeling like a cog in a machine.
Q: What’s your favorite project or achievement?
A: My favorite achievement started a while back but continues every day — being a father. Watching them grow, giving encouragement, and loving my kids is my greatest project.
Q: What does an ideal weekend look like for you?
A: Spending time with the people I love. Recently, that includes getting outside and enjoying autumn. Sometimes I pretend I am much younger and compete in 5Ks and Tough Mudders.
Q: What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on and why?
A: My family and I went on a cruise to Alaska in 2010. I had just graduated college, and it was a great break from school. It served as a good transition into the reality of what life is like as an adult. Most people do not understand the beauty and sheer scale of Alaska until they visit it.
Q: What’s your favorite food?
A: I would go with ramen. I love most Asian foods, but ramen is at the top of that list. I like making it twice a year using traditional methods. It takes about five hours, but it is worth it.
Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given, or your favorite inspiring quote?
A: My favorite quote is: “You cannot see your reflection in boiling water. Similarly, you cannot see the truth in a state of turmoil. When the waters calm, clarity comes.” It is a relatively new quote in my life, but I have reflected on it often in the past year.
