On Thursday, August 29, 2019 the Appoquinimink School District dedicated its newest elementary school, Lorewood Grove. U.S. Senator Chris Coons, Delaware Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long, and Delaware Secretary of Education Dr. Susan Bunting were among several guest speakers, along with other elected state officials and school district administration. Food trucks, performing members of the Middletown High School Marching Band, selfie stations, and playground activities helped make the outdoor ribbon cutting more like a festival. Self-guided tours of the grades 1 – 5 public school followed the ceremony, with teachers greeting new students in their classrooms.
Lorewood Grove Elementary School is in the Town of Whitehall, a new walkable planned community in Middletown, DE. The school features daylighted classrooms, learning commons for each grade level, a dedicated STEM room, outdoor stage, and a colorful climbing wall that spans one end of the cafetorium/gymnasium.
