Thomas W. Gilbert, AIA, REFP, recently attended the A4LE International LearningSCAPES Conference held at the Marriott Marquis, Atlanta, Georgia for those who plan, design, equip, furnish and maintain places where students learn. LearningSCAPES provided groundbreaking educational sessions, inspiring keynotes, and a showcase of state-of-the-art tools that move learning into the future. Keynote Speaker David Houle, author of Shift Ed: A Call to Action for Transforming K–12 Education, spoke about the transformation of K–12 education for the 21st century. He is often called “the CEOs’ Futurist,” quick to challenge the most powerful leaders. Sessions included Creating a New Early Learning Environment; Outdoor Learning Environments; STEM at the Elementary Level; Understanding Learning Commons; and CTE, PBL and STEM at Work in Education.
